Turkish Draughts
Türkiye · Middle East
One of the most distinctive variants: pieces move straight forward and sideways instead of diagonally. Each player starts with 16 men on ranks 2 and 3 of an 8×8 board.

Rules
- Men move one square forward, left or right — never diagonally or backward.
- Captures are also orthogonal; the move taking the most pieces is compulsory.
- The king flies along ranks and files like a chess rook.
- A player reduced to one man versus a king loses immediately.
About the game
In Türkiye and the Levant this is the coffeehouse game, traditionally played at speed with loud piece slaps. Because men also move sideways, flank attacks and wall formations matter far more than in diagonal variants.
